The
Bekaa orchard stretches out over an area of 350,000m² at around 800m above sea
level. Its dry weather and fertile land are extremely suitable for the growth
of a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. The agricultural plantations there
include a large variety of lettuce fields (baby romaine, batavia [red and
green], boston lettuce [red and green], frisée fine, iceberg, lollo
rossa, lollo verde, oak leaf [red and green], radicchio and red lettuce),
broccoli, a wide variety of cabbage (choux rave [red and green], cabbage [red
and green], cauliflower and chinese cabbage), dill, fennel and potato. Also
available are plantations of apple (over 10 varieties), asian pear, melon,
nectarine, peach, tomato (15 different types for cooking and eating) and
watermelon.
Throughout, the land is irrigated by an automated sprinkler and drip
system. Chemicals are minimally used, only when deemed absolutely necessary.
Depending on the weather and the season, green housing or open field farming is
employed. |
